Poetic Perception – a twist today – Mumford and Sons “I Will Wait”

I’ve always been in awe with music.  Lyrics, composition , how through the decades new creations spring forth on a daily basis across all genres.  I’m always intrigued by what inspired a song and how I or the listener can interpret it in their own context.  No lie, some of my poems have been influenced by musicians from RUSH, Boston, U2, Seal, Sarah McLachlan to Tom Petty.

Today I’m taking the lyrics to “I Will Wait for You” by Mumford and Sons, which has been a bit of a personal anthem lately and in italics give my poetic perception.

Let me take you on a trip.

Foreshadowing this new expression to assist the reader as to my interpretation is the following – History repeats itself so we can learn from it, let it go and ascend (or transcend – wordplay on the process of ascending).  I was brought up in a Roman Catholic household and was influenced by it as a child and teenager going to Catholic schools.  I broke off with it as soon as I could which occurred when I was in first year university.  Went on an exploration of world religions.   Taoism and Buddhism having a heavy impact.  Only around 8 years ago to come back to my ‘roots’ of Catholicism and get reacquainted with the Bible and teachings of Jesus (primarily love ).   And just as quickly, to fall from the grace I had been blessed with, and got lost in the material world yet again…or the world of “What I want” versus what “Will be done”.    Forgiveness has been a huge issue for me.  Love…well you can see from my poetry how I’m coming to terms with that.  Surrender…Peace…Joy…Happiness…Service…Family… I can continue.   One of the patterns of awakening for me has always been after the break off of a relationship…3 of the more serious kind.  The latest, the most revealing (the depth of codependency is insidious)  and the one that basically says…Dude, you chose the red pill when you were 17… wake the fuck up because it’s time!  They say third time’s the charm.  So my life has been based on an acronym liquid papered on my hockey helmut at 17 as well – ASLTW – Actions Speak Louder Than Words.  In seeing the world through a different set of eyes (call it Truth/Divinity/God/Gaia – whatever) I have realized that my actions at times were genuine (some complete some incomplete and growing truth) and others definitely misguided.  I’ve also done everything sober in my life (no drugs/alcohol) so all the stupid stuff I’ve done, I’ve done sober which to me means that denying the truth and being awakened by the truth have been a really, really bitter pill of atonement to deal with…lol.   I  have no excuses is what I’m saying, I can’t blame anyone or anything.  I knew in some circumstances I was hurting my soul and in others the behaviour and belief systems that misguided me and were mine have been rectified.  Hopefully this will make more sense after you read this ‘Poetic Perception’.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you to Mumford and Sons and all the unsung influences out there that inspire our lives to be more of who, not what, we are.   And thank you God, whatever your understanding of this light is.

I Will Wait

Well, I came home
Like a stone

(coming home, metaphor for my heart which was like a stone or frozen – great tune by audiosoave too)
And I fell heavy into your arms

(getting closer to God, building a relationship of trust and faith- huge issue for me)
These days of dust
Which we’ve known

(all the unhappiness, dis-ease, unsatisfying pursuits, emptiness – that feeling that there is more to life than what I’m doing)
Will blow away with this new sun

(surrendering my will – my belief systems, desires, pain, emotions, etc – have been given hope, energy, inspiration with my awakening – rising sun, new day and rebirth)

But I’ll kneel down,

(surrender willfully, humbly and gladly)
Wait for now

(learn patience to know and hear the guidance from my heart – in silence or in the eye of the hurricane – my actions will be done according to God’s guidance and will only be initiated in this knowing)
And I’ll kneel down,
Know my ground

(know the way through faith and trust in my higher self, connection to the Divine)

And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

( I’ll wait for God’s guidance, moment by moment, step by step, breathe by breathe )

So break my step

( humbling time, awakening time, depending on how often I’ve ignored/denied the call, it can be soft and subtle or have the effect of a cinder block falling on my head)
And relent

(hold myself accountable and responsible for all I’ve done, atone for it,  and move forward)
Well, you forgave and I won’t forget

Know what we’ve seen

(God has forgiven me – all of us – and I won’t forget that, I won’t repeat the mistakes, patterns that led me astray because I will always remember where my strength and blessings come from – it is not fear based – it’s a realization that you only have one choice in life, free will + divine will = alignment with your purpose in life – anything else will be a learning lesson to bring you into alignment and there’s only one lesson to learn, continually – love )

And him with less
Now in some way shake the excess

(sanctification – house cleaning time – letting go of things like belief systems, behavioural patterns, that no longer serve my purpose – and this process is not by my own hand it is done through me)

‘Cause I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

Now I’ll be bold

(courage – bravery – to show up, to risk , to be yourself regardless of what other people think or more importantly my own fears – take my lumps and gifts – and act accordingly)
As well as strong

(my fortitude comes from vulnerability – faith – trust – commitment – and more)
And use my head alongside my heart

(alignment – lead by the heeding the wisdom in my heart and think accordingly using the power of the mind to manifest creation of God’s will / purpose – not mine – and not necessarily grand, could be as simple as giving someone a seat on a bus, paying a genuine compliment to a stranger, or being there to listen)
So tame my flesh

( channel my desire in a the proper direction – internal to move forward external – seek love of self – not selfishness, narcissism, hedonism – but true love of self – acceptance, non judgement, non attachment – and know )
And fix my eyes

( love at first sight – grace – seeing the world as the world is – not through my conditioning and clouded by my bias)
A tethered mind freed from the lies

( no more self/ego deception – codependency withers away for a healthier sense of self that is liberated to stand tall, stand by itself and stand in communion with all, equally)

And I’ll kneel down,
Wait for now
I’ll kneel down,
Know my ground

Raise my hands

(ask for help – open to receiving love and guidance – at the same time filled with gratitude and giving thanks – connection to all that is above and in kneeling down all that is below – unification of the masculine (G0d) and feminine (Mother Earth)
Paint my spirit gold

(fill me with love and truth)
And bow my head

( humility is strength – acknowledgment of grace)
Keep my heart slow

(patiently, steadfast, determined, actions and legacy will express God’s truth/way – being a rookie in the awakening of the force there is also a tendency to rush out like a zealot and share this with the world and expect instant gratification / manifestation / acceptance / change – ya no, doesn’t work like that unless you’re really, really, lucky – enthusiasm is great and necessary – may require a little mediation)

‘Cause I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

(celebration of being set free from my own bondage through the grace of God, I will wait)

The soul / spirit communicates with us in many forms.
